Our students work towards global and community change by collaborating with community based organizations and nonprofits, and it all starts with 30A. Open to all UCSC students, this course also fills a GE requirement (PE-T, Technology and Society).
Through Fall Quarter, students will learn to utilize basic digital tech tools in the context of social justice movements, develop leadership skills and understand their positionality, and gain an introduction to systems thinking through a mix of professor and peer-led workshops.
This course introduces processes of community-engaged research and organizational assessment.
Course at a Glance
Heads on Justice

Tuesday’s classes will focus on topics like global justice movements and the broader systems that are the root causes of social issues we see daily.
Hands on Tech

Thursday’s labs are student-led and teach digital tech skills for working in solidarity with community organizations, ranging from film and graphic design to website creation. These classes also feature guest speakers and a hands-on learning approach.
Hearts on Change

Sections are also student-led by Everett Fellows. Our curriculum builds on evaluating positionality and solidarity over saviorism to prepare students to sustainably and respectfully engage with communities.
