Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s tourism industry relies heavily on the country’s natural beauty. However, the economic benefits of tourism are not equitable. Limited access to technology excludes local Costa Rican women in rural communities from these benefits. Our theory of change aims to address this social injustice by empowering Costa Rican women with tech and social media training.

We will hold 2-3 hour workshops in three different communities: Mariposas del Golfo, MudeCoop, and Mujeres de Coyolito. The workshops will focus on digital marketing skills relevant to rural tourism and small businesses. We will target content for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Our project aims to empower women in rural communities in Costa Rica, promote economic and cultural prosperity, and narrow the digital divide. To assess the needs of these women, we plan to conduct Google surveys at the beginning and end of each workshop. The significance of our project lies in potential to empower the community by strengthening their existing tech skills and implementing other self-promoting strategies.
